Oxford City Futsal Club, founded in 2011 and coached by Enrique Guillen, who finished fifth in last season’s NFL Super League.
At first the team was known as Passalona Futsal, and won the inaugural Oxfordshire Futsal League. The team quickly gained in reputation by reaching the FA Cup Finals in 2011, becoming quarter-finalists with less than two months’ preparation. As a result of this, they were invited to join the National Futsal League Midlands Division. In their first year they became champions of this league, beating the record of goals scored in one season and reaching the grand finals.
In the same year they also won the Community Shield and Mitoo Futsal Cup. In the summer of 2012 they joined with Oxford City Football Club to form their Futsal division. Since then the first team has again won the Midlands League (2012/13 and 2013/14) and was asked to join the highest National League, which they won in 2016/17, also winning the FA Cup in that year.
Club Secretary Mark Hinnells says: “Oxford City Futsal Club is delighted we can now run our own league. We can now introduce innovation in the way we run and promote the league as a collective. It is important to raise standards, and to promote the game, working together. There is an incredible pool of talent in the league both on and off the court, and we must start from where we are and then progressively improve over time in a sustainable way. We have much to learn from other indoor sports like netball and basketball, in facilities, event management, online presence, and promotion of the game.”
